What can you expect from your consultation at the Hillcrest Spinal Centre.

First we need to understand your medical and health history. Unfortunately many health problems can mimic disorders of the spine and, therefore, it is important that we discuss your history in some detail. This will be followed by a comprehensive examination in order to make the most accurate diagnosis. The initial consultation will usually take between 30 to 40 minutes, depending upon the complexity of your case. A physical examination of your back is very important, and your modesty will be preserved at all times – gowns are provided.

Please be assured that if we do not think that we can help you, or if our examination reveals any additional concerns, we will refer you appropriately and liaise with your general practitioner on your behalf.

Do you need a referral?

Many of our patients are referred by their GP, however, you do NOT need a referral to become a patient.

What if I need further investigations?
We work closely with 2 Hamilton Radiology Clinics:

Hamilton Radiology and River Radiology
Both clinics are committed to quality radiological examinations and diagnosis and therefore use state-of-the-art equipment and experienced radiographers to produce premium quality images. Working with these clinics allows our practitioners to collaborate  with some of the best radiologists in the country.

The cost of plain film X-rays and diagnostic ultrasound is largely covered by ACC in the case of an accident.  Both clinics are generally able to accommodate our patients on short notice.  MRI is available in NZ with an Orthopedic Surgeon’s referral.
