Sciatica (leg pain)
Sciatica involves irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve (a group of nerves that exit the spinal cord around your lower back); causing pain that travels down the leg. Symptoms include numbness, tingling, weakness, or an “electric shock” sensation that travels down either one or both legs. Sciatica can be due to a variety of conditions such as a herniated disc, radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, piriformis syndrome or spasm, inflammation, spondylolisthesis (a slippage of the spine which can be caused by degeneration) injury, or trauma.
Most people do not realize that sciatica is not a diagnosis; it is a symptom of an underlying problem in the lower back. The underlying condition will need to be treated in order to see relief from sciatic nerve pain.
The vast majority of people who experience sciatica find pain relief with non-surgical treatment and conservative care such as with chiropractic care. Treatment of sciatic pain is one of the most common health issues Chiropractors encounter. The Hillcrest Spinal Centre have access to the most up to date knowledge and equipment enabling us to treat sciatic nerve pain without surgery.
